After countless hours in darkened theaters, blacktop bijous and the living room cineplex, we all learn the sad truth that the coming attractions previews are usually more entertaining than the flicks they're hawking: All the action, laughs, best lines and "money shots" crammed into a few short minutes while an announcer barks, "See it if you dare!" So what could be better than a feature-length preview tape of trashy drive-in flicks and nothing but the best parts (especially before a double feature)? The trash quality of the culled trailers vary, but there's something here to tempt everyone's sense of bad taste. The disturbing The Twisted Nerve begins the tape and two high-kicking kung-fu flicks, The Thunder Kick and Dragons Die Hard, follow. Body Snatcher from Hell is a Japanese import that tells a tale of deadly space goo on the rampage and The Jaws of Death has Richard Jaeckel and his pack of pet Mako sharks chewing up the seaside scenery.
Classic drive-in movies are on the roster, among them Truck Stop Women, Death Race 2000 and The Texas Chainsaw Massacre. Sexploitation is also on tap with The Student Body and the raunchy-looking The Cats. Peppered throughout are some of the most hysteria-inducing "kiddie" freakshow flicks ever produced: Snow White, Rose Red, Puss 'n Boots, The Golden Goose and K. Gordon Murray's immortal Little Red Riding Hood and the Monsters. Cheese-sleaze flicks Night of the Bloody Apes, The Nesting and Shriek of the Mutilated parade out with oddball westerns such as $100,000 For Ringo and Cry Onion.
You'll also get to groove to the slick sounds of the early '80s with the Village People in Can't Stop the Music and relive those magic moments when Americans were enamored of putting little wheels on their funky feet and getting down with Linda Blair in Roller Boogie. The tape ends with H.G. Lewis's white-trash classic Scum of the Earth. The standout trailer among all this trashy goodness is Amin: The Rise and Fall: Two minutes of sex, drugs, brutal violence, decapitated heads in an icebox, cannibalism, and a nice tight close-up on a sweating, deranged Amin screaming, "I'm Big Daddy!" Truly outstanding.
